I am a speech language therapist with a special interest in swallowing impairment (otherwise known as dysphagia). My PhD will contribute to a multi centre research programme looking at tackling aspiration pneumonia - an unfortunately common occurrence in many patients following a stroke - by developing protocols that reduce the rates of pneumonia within New Zealand hospitals.
