In the summer project we will use an iron-sensitive MRI technique to investigate iron deposition in the substantia nigra and other cortex areas of Parkinson's Disease patients, as part of a longitudinal study. As result of the project, we will confirm 1) whether iron deposition is increased in the substantia nigra in Parkinson's, 2) investigate the relationship between iron accumulation and disease severity in the basal ganglia, and 3) investigate the relationship between whole-brain QSM values and measures of cognitive ability.
